A Vibrant Showcase of Muscle Research at the 2025 CTMR Symposium!
This past November, the Center for Translational Muscle Research celebrated another year of pioneering muscle research at the 6th annual CTMR Symposium. This year, the symposium brought together a community of muscle researchers from across the world with a focus on the theme Modeling and Metabolism in Muscle Research.
In keeping with the theme, keynote speaker Dr. Daniel Beard of the University of Michigan Medical School gave an insightful talk at the intersection of modeling and metabolism in the failing heart.

This was followed by a showcase of the CTMR’s impact through presentations by awardees of CTMR Pilot Grants and lightning talks from researchers ranging from undergraduates to CTMR investigators.
The Year 6 CTMR Pilot Grant awardees showcase the progress they’ve been able to make in their projects with the help of CTMR resources and funding.
After a busy morning of talks, attendees took a break for a networking lunch full of robust conversation that led naturally into a poster session where over 30 CTMR trainees presented their work.
Attendees reconvened for talks from CTMR investigators Dr. Princess Imoukhuede and Dr. Michael Geeves and saw a glimpse of the cutting-edge work the CTMR is supporting with the seventh year of Pilot Grants.

Finally, the day closed with talks from the University of Washington’s Nutrition and Obesity Research Center investigators Dr. Ellen Schur, Dr. Rong Tian, and Dr. Karin Bornfeldt.

These talks highlighted the importance of metabolism in muscle function and regulation, wrapping up a day that fostered meaningful scientific collaboration and learning across the muscle research community.
